Ok so here’s my thoughts on the first episode:
Favorite Quotes:
Kalon “I used to be kind of loud and obnoxious and a womanizer”… um probably not the way you want to introduce yourself to America.
Emily “A minivan full of babies” is what she wants 5 years from now. That’s her first thought. I’m not sure if she wants the guy or the kids…
Emily “When I go to the grocery store guys are not pulling me in 15 different sections of the grocery store”
Favorite moment: Emily’s attempt to respond to the Brazilian guy’s portuguese intro in Spanish. I assume she didn’t realize that they don’t speak Spanish in Brazil…
Thoughts on the Guys:
Kalon: The “former” womanizer is not my favorite, but I’m reserving judgment for later But he plays tennis, which makes me smile
The helicopter was a bold move and since you have to stand out somehow on the first night I don’t blame him. Though he flaunts his money around a little too much which bothers me.
Ryan – Teaching really little kids to lift tires isn’t attractive… But I want your dog. And you had a cute intro.
Tony – goofy. I think he might be for Emily if his life weren’t so settled in Oregon. Though if he keeps pulling the “I have a kid too card” he’ll go far. And he knew she’s a princess at heart and used that already so he might be a contender.
Charlie – You win the cutest dog award. Can I steal your bulldog? Also what’s up with all the dogs???
Jef – Cut your hair. Until then no one can take you seriously. And don’t ride a skateboard in to meet someone who has a kid…
Sean – INCREDIBLY awkward hello.
Doug – You pulled the son card WAY too early. But I have to admit that letter was precious, and it obviously made you stand out already.
Joe – You have WAY too much energy. I couldn’t even keep up with the introduction, I felt exhausted just watching it!
Arie – At least he recognized it’s a long shot her falling for another race car driver (even though she claims it isn’t). But I saw the way she looked at you when you introduced yourself… she liiiikes you
Kyle – Boring.
Chris – Talked WAYYYY too much when he introduced himself. And appears to be attempting to stir up drama in future episodes.
Aaron – The glasses were a little goofy looking. But I kind of think she might fall for you. And your corny pick-up line she seemed to fall for, maybe Jackson should take some pointers…
Alessandro – How did you survive a move from Brazil to Minneapolis? I mean talk about a weather change…
Nate – Apparently smells good
John “Wolf” – Emily please go on a date with him soon so I can figure out what a data destruction engineer does!
Travis – Ok the egg thing is really really bizarre.
Michael looks like he belongs in Hanson, not on the Bachelorette. Though if they could convince him to sing mmbop my life would be made…
Alejandro – He’s a charity director and she works (or worked) at a children’s hospital! A match made in “doing good in the world” heaven! I hope she keeps him around awhile.
No Roses For You
Emily, WHY DID YOU SEND LERONE HOME SO EARLY????? He was my favorite after the intros! Then again I’m pretty sure some of the people kept on there are for the entertainment value of the show and not who you would’ve picked, but how did you turn down Lerone???????
Jean-Paul – I don’t know why you and Lerone went home. Apparently she didn’t like that you didn’t creepily look her up before the season started (because let’s be real, very few guys watch the Bachelor so I doubt most of them knew her story before thinking about being on the show).
Randy – Cross dressing like a grandma is not exactly the way to a woman’s heart.
Jackson – Apparently Emily doesn’t fall for corny pick-up lines.
Brent – The nametag didn’t work too well for you bud.
David – No wonder you got sent home. You like her posture? Really? Who says that?
By the way did anyone else notice Emily’s tattoo? Is it new? If not how did I not notice this before?????
As many of you know my favorite show (embarrassing, I know) is the Bachelor/Bachelorette/Bachelor Pad. So I’ve glanced at the pictures/job descriptions of the guys and here’s my initial thoughts before even seeing any previews:
Aaron looks like he’ll make it a week or two but not stand out unless he plays up the teacher thing.

Alessandro doesn’t have a chance unless he has a cute story as to how he became a grain merchant.

Alejandro – Mushroom farmer. Enough said. Doesn’t make it past day one.

Arie – Will bring back too many painful memories, but she might keep him for a few weeks. Or the show will keep him on for the storyline. If you don’t know he’s a racecar driver and so was her fiancee who died in the plane crash on the way to a race.

Brent looks too nerdy for her

Charlie has potential. He’s a recruiter so I have a feeling he’s good at small talk and can probably sell himself as a catch to Emily!

Chris is either going to fail miserably or win her heart. I hope it’s win her heart.

David – I’m not sure if Emily’s into the singer/songwriter thing, so I think he’ll probably leave fairly early.

Doug – Can’t really tell from the pic. Probably goes away in the middle episodes.

Jackson is a fitness model, therefore probably too shallow for her. The conversations would be incredibly… boring. Let’s face it, we all know she’s not the most exciting conversationalist out there.

Jean-Paul is my dark horse. He’s either gone in round one or going to surprisingly sweep her off her feet. I hope he lives up to his name and sweeps her off her feet (and I hope he speaks French).

Jef never got out of the early 90’s so he won’t make it into the house.

Joe has potential. He might be a contender.

John “Wolf” is a data destruction specialist. He has to be interesting to talk to just by his job title, so I think he’ll stay for a few rounds.

Kalon looks like he might not be straight. But if he acts less girly than he looks and sounds like he will be, Emily seems to live a life of luxury so it might surprisingly work well (he’s a luxury brand consultant). If my guess is correct he might make a good first gay Bachelor.

Kyle – Not sure why but I think Kyle has potential to be a contender. He just seems down to earth and like he won’t be intimidated by her. Either that or he’s going to fail miserably.

Lerone – Has potential as well – he seems like a nice guy (which I think is her type). Though I’m skeptical as to what a “real estate consultant” does vs. a real estate agent…

Michael – For the sake of Bachelor watchers everywhere we don’t need someone with long hair on the show again. Emily please send him home fast.

Nate has potential, but he’s an accountant, so I’m not sure if that’s exciting enough for Emily (sorry Andy
)

Randy looks like the goofy guy who gets a few roses just because he’s funny but she doesn’t actually end up liking romantically.

Ryan is either a serious contender or a complete flop.

Sean is my favorite just from the pictures/jobs. He seems down to earth enough for her, but like he has a personality (something I hope she develops as the show goes on or it’ll be Ben’s season pt. 2)

Stevie – Party MC and Emily’s daughter are two things that won’t mix well in her mind. He’s gone as soon as she hears his job title.

Tony – Problem with Tony is his industry is kind of specific to Oregon (lumber trader). I’m doubting Emily will want to move so I’m guessing he won’t be the one for her (though he might get a few roses along the way).

Travis is also a serious contender for similar reasons as Sean

A little over a week from now I’m running a half marathon. Yes, this is the same girl who had a stress fracture this past fall and wrote not too long ago about how excited I was to finally be able to run one mile.
I found out about this half marathon a month ago, so I had very little time to train. Luckily because I was almost done with my getting back to running decent distances, I was able to pick up from there and use this as further motivation. Am I completely ready for the Gutenberg (Half) Marathon Mainz? Probably not. Am I excited for it? Absolutely!
My parents will be here, so I fully expect to hear jokes and funny comments coming from my father at periodic points along the route, and see lots of pictures afterwards taken by my mom. Since the route is along the Rhine I’m not sure if mom’s pictures will be of the view or of me, but I guess I’ll find out soon!
I have really enjoyed training for this race, since it’s made me remember why I like running so much. I’ve been able to get back into the longer distance runs much quicker than I expected, and I’ve been able to explore my surroundings a little bit! Now I just need to finish the race.
Oh, and in true German style you get beer for finishing.

I love reading and I love my job. But how do these relate since the vast majority of my reading is not directly relatable to my career? This article is all the proof I need that I can take lessons from classics and apply them to the business world!

Ok so I’m not actually a coffee drinker, but this reminded me of many people I know (esp. Andy) who can’t quite function until they’ve had their morning coffee.
After taking a break from the 1001 Books list to read Hunger Games I’m back to reading from the list! I just finished The War of the Worlds and A Room with a View, and am now moving on to The Jungle.
I’ve been rating the books as I go along, so I thought I’d share what I have so far. It’s been incredibly difficult to rate the books because I feel bad giving any book on the list a bad rating, and want to give every book a 4 or 5! Even books that are rated 1 are worth reading, they just weren’t my favorite. I know books I read recently I tend to remember better, and therefore tend to give higher ratings. I’m trying not to do that, but I know it’s happening a little bit!
As I go along I’m adjusting ratings to make sure there’s fairly even distribution among the ratings. A 1 is the lowest rating and means that, while it deserves to be on the list, it was not something I am likely to read again. 5 is life changing, awesome, probably the type of book I truly enjoy, and/or something I would read over and over again. To be a 5 it has to be one of those books I just couldn’t put down once I started reading. Books that are 5’s (and 4’s and most 3’s) are not all happy reads, but they are all powerful, amazing books for various reasons.

Note: Books are in age order, with newest first, because that’s the order of the list (and therefore my ratings), so there is no special meaning to being first or last within a rating!
Why are road signs here always telling me that an exit is 1000m ahead? I may not be an expert on the metric system, but I do know that 1000m=1km. For some reason this really bothers me.
In the U.S. I’d be incredibly annoyed if every sign said “Exit 1760 yards” or “Exit 5280 ft.,” so why 1000m? There must be some reason for doing this, I just haven’t figured it out yet. So it’s become a new goal of mine. If anyone reading this knows please share – I’m incredibly curious!
